We Believe

As a United Methodist congregation, we believe Scripture is the unique, God-revealed source and standard for the Christian faith. Christian tradition, reason, and the lived experience of believers help us make sense of the Bible.

As United Methodists, we're part of a global church family that affirms the historic distinctives of Wesleyan faith: prevenient grace, free will, personal and social holiness, assurance of the believer, and a connected church.  With many other Christian denominations, we also believe the ancient creeds accurately summarize biblical faith.
To quote The Apostles' Creed:

WE BELIEVE...
In God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

WE BELIEVE...
In Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come to judge the living and the dead.

WE BELIEVE...
In the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

* The word "catholic" here means "universal," the whole church around the world and throughout history.
